Tire Comes Off Suspected Stolen SUV During Pursuit Inside El Monte Mobile Home Park

A police pursuit of a suspected stolen vehicle inside a mobile home park in El Monte ended when a tire came flying off the vehicle Wednesday night.

Newschopper4 Bravo was over the chase around 9:20 p.m., as El Monte police were chasing the SUV through the streets in Brookside Park, a mobile home community in El Monte.

The SUV was reported stolen, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.

A short time after getting overhead, Newschopper4 Bravo observed that police stopped chasing the vehicle inside the park and instead blocked off exits from the community, as the driver continued to drive recklessly on the same few streets. The police's airship continued to have a light on the vehicle and follow the driver, who continued to make sharp turns inside the mobile home park.

The driver tossed items out of the vehicle multiple times.

Around 9:30 p.m., the SUV appeared to go over a spike strip left out by police.

At about 9:40 p.m., police appeared to, once again, make contact with a spike strip. However, the vehicle continued to drive in glorified circles inside the mobile home park, with a couple of close calls with police vehicles.

Eventually, the spike strips seemingly took effect, as one of the tires flew off the SUV. The driver proceeded to place his hands outside the vehicle and surrender.

Police moved in to arrest the man without further incident, and he was placed inside the back of a police car shortly after 10 p.m., still inside the mobile home park.
