A high-speed chase that started as the result of a reportedly stolen SUV in San Bernardino County ended following a successful spike strip in Montebello.
The pursuit began around 6:40 p.m. in Rancho Cucamonga near Arrow Route and Baker Avenue, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department. There, deputies attempted to make a stop on a driver in a vehicle that was reported stolen.
The chase spanned several freeways until the driver decided to get on surface streets in Monterey Park. Circling through the area until the driver traveled through East Los Angeles and eventually Montebello, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) was able to deploy spike strips that successfully stopped the driver near the intersection of Garfield Avenue and Via San Clemente.
After refusing to exit the vehicle for roughly 10 minutes, the driver eventually surrendered and CHP was able to make an arrest.
