Shirtless Man Hit With Stun Gun as Crowd Gathers at Venice Boardwalk After Chase

A shirtless man was accused of leading a pursuit from Orange County to the beach Friday afternoon before he was hit with a stun gun in front of a Venice Boardwalk crowd.

Austin Joseph Hall, described by Placentia police as a 28-year-old homeless man, was arrested on suspicion of making terrorist threats, violation of a domestic violence restraining order, felony evading, and resisting arrest.

The chase began after police responded to the 600 block of Trumpet Ave in Placentia for a report of domestic violence.

Police say Hall allegedly left and got into an SUV, leading a chase from Orange County on the 91 Freeway, chased by authorities from Placentia police to Santa Fe Springs California Highway patrol.

Hall could be seen talking on the phone as the chase continued in the South Bay region.

After maneuvering congested freeways in the LAX area, Hall allegedly headed down Bundy Drive in Mar Vista and eventually wound up in the Santa Monica region.

After the pursuit SUV stopped near the Venice Boardwalk, Hall was seen exiting the car.

He allegedly walked away from officers at Ocean Front Park and Venice Boulevard before they hit him with a stun gun right at the often-tourist-filled Venice Boardwalk.

He fell to the ground on his back, and medical aid was called, per protocol when a stun gun is deployed.

He was taken into custody shortly after 1 p.m.
