It may sound like thunder Saturday in southern Orange County, but Camp Pendleton officials say the loud booms are tank crews at the Marines base taking some shooting practice.
Live-fire training exercises began at 10 a.m., and are expected to wrap up at 2 p.m. The same training hours are to continue this Monday through Friday, according to Camp Pendleton's public affairs office.
The cannon fire may be heard up to 50 miles away, depending on atmospheric conditions.
