Speedy Robbers With Crowbars Steal Jewelry

Police are searching for a trio of smash-and-grab robbers who used crowbars to rip off a jewelry display case in Huntington Beach.

Police said the robbery occurred Monday at about 8:25 p.m. at the Kohl's store in the Bella Terra Mall in Huntington Beach.

"At least three male suspects were involved," police said in a statement. "One suspect held the door while two others with a crow bar and hammer began smashing the glass display cases and stealing jewelry. The crime occurred very quickly and no employees or customers were injured."

Police have interviewed eight witnesses who were in the area at the time, said Huntington Beach police Lt. Russell Reinhart. Police said they are looking for additional witnesses because the crime occurred while the store was still open for business.

The display cases contained watches and jewelry and the loss was estimated to be significant, but the store has not supplied a figure, Reinhart said.

Two of the three men were caught on surveillance tape but had their backs to the camera. One was holding the crowbar and the other was scooping jewelry, Reinhart said.

The getaway car was described only as a dark green, older small vehicle, Reinhart said.
