Caught on Video: Chino Bank Gunman

In bank surveillance video, the gunman in a protective vest is seen with a bag and high-powered rifle

Authorities released surveillance video Thursday of a masked gunman who was armed with a high-powered rifle when he robbed a Chino bank, then opened fire on an officer outside the building.

The search for the gunman continued Thursday morning.

In the video, the gunman -- wearing a protective vest -- can be seen walking around the bank with the rifle. He is seen leaving with a bag.

Moments later, the man opened fire on an officer who was on routine patrol when he encountered the gunman, according to Chino police. The officer drove himself to a hospital, where his condition was stable, according to police.

His injuries are not considered life-threatening.

The robber left with an undisclosed amount of money. Bills were scattered on the ground outside California Bank and Trust.

No bank customers or employees were injured.

The suspect's vehicle was described as a dark gray Nissan with tinted windows and Arizona license plates.

The heist and shooting led to several street closures and school lockdowns as police searched Wednesday for the subject.

The gunman was described as white between 35 and 40 years old, about 6 feet tall and 200 to 250 pounds. He was wearing a black stocking cap, dark blue collar shirt, navy bullet-proof vest, light colored jeans and sneakers.

Authorities are looking for a newer model charcoal grey Nissan Altima with Arizona plates, tinted windows and chrome rims in connection with the case.
