Swing by Dapper Day's Free LACMA Lark

Don your vintage-tastic best, then visit the museum's European galleries for a nighttime bash.

What to Know

  • Saturday, Jan. 26
  • 7 to 10 p.m.; arrive early for the stand-by line
  • Los Angeles County Museum of Art

Dapper Day is widely associated with Disneyland Resort, as well as a few other Disney destinations, and with fine reason: The dressy-dressy happenings have been popping up at the Anaheim theme parks, twice each year, for several years now.

But the event, which is not produced by Disney, has been sashaying into other notable spots in recent years, too, including the LA Opera and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

And while the LACMA forays have been of the daytime variety, or at least had daytime starts, the next gussy-up gathering headed for the Miracle Mile art museum is all about the night.

True, you can arrive earlier in the day, if you'd like to show off your sublime vintage get-up, but you will need to pay museum admission, if you enter LACMA (sticking to the grounds is free).

But beginning at 7 o'clock on Saturday, Jan. 26? You can skip into a pay-nothing Swinging Soirée, inside the museum's "renowned European galleries."

Those galleries will be shuttering soon, "in preparation for the museum's new building for the permanent collection," so this is an excellent time to take in the masterworks before they head off-view for some time.
