Teen, Man Charged With Murder in Stabbing Death of Father in Pico Rivera

A 17-year-old boy and a man accused of stabbing the teen's father to death during a home-invasion robbery in Pico Rivera over the weekend were charged with murder Tuesday, prosecutors said.

Sergio Anthony Gutierrez, the homeowner's son, and 18-year-old Jesus Rafael Adame are suspected of attacking the father at his home in the 3700 block of Oaklawn Lane early Saturday.

After killing him, they allegedly stole cash and credit cards and took off in the family's 2000 Infiniti, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.

Responding deputies found the 50-year-old father, Sergio Gutierrez, suffering from wounds. He later died at the hospital.

A woman who rents a room from the family told NBC4 she heard the homeowner screaming.

"I heard a man yelling in Spanish, 'Me quiere matar,' means 'He wants to kill me,'" Mila Gutierrez said.

Authorities acting on a tip caught up with the pair the next day and arrested them.

Gutierrez and Adame were each charged with one count of murder, two counts of home-invasion robbery and one count of first-degree burglary, prosecutors said.

Gutierrez was charged as an adult, but prosecutors said he is not eligible for the death penalty. If convicted, he faces a maximum possible sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
