We've all seen the car chase that ends in arrest. But in Hawthorne, it looks like a tale of the one that got away. Two armed robbery suspects led police on a tough pursuit Wednesday, crashing into several vehicles and hitting a pedestrian.
The robbery took place around 8 a.m. at an Auto Zone in the 2800 block of Imperial Highway in Inglewood, said Lt. Michael Ishii of the Hawthorne Police Department.
He said the driver led Hawthorne police on a pursuit eastbound on the 105 Freeway. The suspects exited on Vermont Avenue. The vehicle struck several vehicles and a pedestrian, who was taken to a hospital in serious condition but is expected to live, Ishii said.
Lt. Mike McBride of the Inglewood Police Department said $1,700 of the stolen money was recovered from the scene of the crash.
He added that the getaway vehicle, a black Nissan Altima, was stolen from Downey, prompting the participation of the Downey Police Department in the search for the suspects.
As of 2 p.m., the suspects were still at large.
