The body of a woman with a head wound was found in Huntington Harbour on Thursday by sheriff's deputies who followed a trail of blood from a bar across the street.
The body of Anna Krivenkoff, 45, was found around 4 a.m., floating facedown in the water near the entrance to the harbor adjacent Anderson Street, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Department.
Someone inside Turc's bar at 16321 Pacific Coast Highway in Sunset Beach called authorities about 2 a.m. to reported an injured woman outside, ABC7 reported.
When deputies arrived there was no sign of the woman, only a pool of blood next to the jagged ornamental rocks along the side of the bar, as well as a trail of blood.
Deputies followed the blood drops to Huntington Harbour, where the body was found floating in the water in the vicinity of one of the docks, said Huntington Beach police Lt. Craig Bryant.
Bryant said the Sheriff's Department has jurisdiction in Sunset Beach, where the bar is located, but the harbor is under the jurisdiction of the Huntington Beach Police Department, which has taken over the investigation.
Huntington Beach Police Department detectives are continuing this investigation, but at this time it appears to be an accidental death, officials said.
Bar patron Greg Dejong said the death was unsettling.
"It's one of our hangouts, you know, right here every day, at one point or another," Dejong told ABC7. "Just seeing the bartenders. We know everybody that works here. We know all the owners. We love the place. Everybody's a little freaked out, right now, trying to find out who this is. It's sad. We just really hope it's not local."
