Truck Accident Closes PCH

A dump truck overturned on Pacific Coast Highway at Kanan  Dume Road Wednesday, killing the driver and leaving dirt littered across the road  and a fire hydrant sheared.

The accident occurred around 11:38 a.m. when the driver of a truck collided with two parked cars as well as a power pole and fire hydrant, according to Lt. Scott Chew of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The driver's body was found under the truck, Chew said. His name was not immediately available. He apparently was heading  toward PCH on Kanan Dume when he lost control for unknown reasons.

The sheared hydrant sent water shooting into the air and power was also knocked out in the immediate area.

The Pacific Coast Highway was closed in both directions while crews worked to cleanup the spill. A county fire inspector said Kanan Dume Road was also closed near the intersection.

Police were investigating the cause of the accident.
