Driver Has Medical Emergency, Crashes Into Restaurant

The driver of a Dodge Durango who crashed into a Mexican restaurant and injured three patrons may have had a medical emergency, Long Beach police said.

The driver was behind the wheel of a silver Dodge Durango that jumped a curb and crashed into the patio area of Los Potros restaurant in the 1900 block of East Pacific Coast Highway in Long Beach.

The driver was hospitalized. His condition was not immediately known. Police did not say what kind of medical emergency the man had suffered.

A woman and two men who were at the restaurant were also taken to hospitals with injuries that appear to be non-life threatening.

Guadalupe Dominguez, a cook at the restaurant, said three customers were hit. Two men had just ordered food and were eating, Dominguez said.

"I saw the car as it veered out of control and hit all three people. It was horrific," she said.

The crash closed eastbound PCH between Cherry and Gardenia avenues, police said.
