Second Graders Bring Holiday Cheer to SoCal Family

A Southern California family that has fallen on hard times has reason to be merry this Christmas after second graders hand-delivered them holiday cheer.

Students from Redhill Elementary School in Tustin “adopted” the Rosario family for Christmas, and on Friday piled up gifts in the single room shared by mother Lizbeth and three young children.

“You guys made a big difference in a family’s life today and I’m so proud of you guys,” he said through tears,” said teacher TyRon Jackson, who orchestrated the giving.

Four years ago, Jackson was named Mr. Gay Orange County and believed that would give him a platform for change. Ever since, he has been working with his community and his young students to help the less fortunate and marginalized – a community, he says, he can identify with.

Jackson lived in a motel as a teen and was bullied because he is gay.

“Regardless of what people look like, regardless of who they are, when you come together, great things can happen,” Jackson said.
