Knife-Wielding Attacker Grabs UCLA Student Jogging on Campus

A bystander who saw what happened yelled at the attacker, who then ran away

Police issued a campus warning Thursday after a knife-wielding attacker grabbed a UCLA student as she was jogging on campus one night earlier, officials said.

The attack happened Wednesday about 8:30 p.m. on the northeast side of the Franklin D. Murphy Sculpture Garden, south of Macgowan Hall, according to the UCLA Police Department.

A witness saw the man grab the jogger and yelled at the attacker, who then let go of the student and ran away, police said.

The student's arm was scraped in the attack, officials said.

The attacker is described as a male with light skin color, wearing a black long-sleeved sweater with dark pants, possibly denim. Police said he was reported to have smelled of alcohol.
