The Uncommon Journey to Diversity exhibit celebrates Black History Mmonth at the West Valley Jewish Center in West Hills.
NBCLA profiled the project created by the Los Angeles Unified School District in early December when the paintings were being created.
This weekend, two women who've made black history toured the exhibit, which features artworks created by Los Angeles eighth graders who put their family histories on canvas.
Rep. Diane Watson and State Assembly Speaker Karen Bass also met with some of the young artists. Watson, who is planning to retire from Congress this year, even shared with them some stories of her own family
Bass, who plans to formally announce her candidacy for Watson's seat next Saturday, said the exhibit is beautiful.
"It shows there are some very talented kids. It's great to see their pride and how they got to know their family histories," Bass said.
The exhibit is open to the public and it will remain at the center for the rest of the month. The center is located at 22622 Van Owen St., in West Hills.
