Why just watch TV when you can be a part of it live, face to face in real time?
Starting this week, we've been hosting live video chats through Google+, a new social network that launched last year.
So far, NBC LA's Mekahlo Medina has been hosting the daily "Hangouts" on the NBC4 News at Noon, giving you a behind-the-scenes look at the show, access to reporters and anchors, and most importantly, a voice in the NBC4 family.
Local news from across Southern California
Now we're branching out into the 5 p.m. show.
Watch the NBC4 News at 5 p.m. on Friday for Dr. Bruce Hensel's live report, and then at 5:30 p.m., the doctor will be joining Mekahlo to answer your questions via a Google+ Hangout.
See you then.

Frequently Asked Questions:
-What's a Hangout?
It's an online videoconference with 10 users who are able to speak, and thousands more are able to watch live.
-How do I join the NBC4 news Hangout?
1) Visit http://plus.google.com/
2) Login, or make a new account.
3) Visit Mekahlo Medina's page and "circle" him to join.
4) Watch your stream for a notification that we're having a Hangout, and click "Join this Hangout."
-What if the Hangout fills up?
The first 10 people who get in will be able to talk during the live video chat. Don't worry though. You can still watch the live feed, and when people drop out, you can hop into the conversation.
-I'm too busy with Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, LinkedIn, Tumblr, Pinterest and Classmates.com to deal with this Google+ thing. Are you serious about this?
As technology continues to change, so we will, and right now, Google+ is offering live videoconferencing that gives us a chance to see our viewers face-to-face, and that's worth joining a new network and connecting.
