High Surf, Red Flag and Wind Warnings in Weekend Forecast

Unseasonably warm weather and howling winds are in the weekend forecast for Southern California. High wind warnings are in effect with gusts up to 80 mph possible in some areas.

Angelenos will need to whip out their windbreakers with wind speeds ranging from 35 to 55 mph in the valley and coastal areas and gusts up to 80 mph in the mountain areas, according to NBC4 Meteorologist Elita Loresca.

"Santa Ana winds are projected to move into the Southland in the afternoon, possibly peaking later on tonight, overnight and into Saturday morning before those winds start to relax by late evening on Saturday," said Loresca

Red flag warnings are in effect for the Inland Empire, mountain communities and coastal areas like Orange County.

For the counties of Los Angeles, Ventura and Orange, a high-surf advisory was in effect until 2 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. Possible waves up to 8 feet were expected, with the high tide at 11:19 a.m. and the low tide at 5:43 p.m.

Friday will remain in the mid-to-high 70s in most areas, with the mountain areas in the mid-40s. Overnight lows will be in the 50s and mountain and hi desert areas between 25-30 degrees.
