Woman Killed After Being Dragged By Car

The incident may have involved a drug deal gone

A woman was killed Thursday when she was struck by a car and then dragged under the vehicle for several blocks in downtown Los Angeles, according to Police.

The driver of the car, a woman, was arrested in what police are calling vehicular homicide. A motive was not immediately clear but authorities believe the incident may have involved a drug deal gone bad, KTLA reported.

Paramedics were sent to Fifth and Los Angeles streets shortly before 1 a.m., said Los Angeles Fire Department Capt. Tom Sammartano. Authorities withheld the name of the dead woman, pending family notification, and the suspect's name was not immediately released.

The investigation closed down parts of westbound 5th Street near Los Angeles Street, Officer Christine Eastburn of the LAPD's Central Traffic Division told the LA Times.

The woman died shortly after police stopped the car.

"One of our units observed the victim underneath the tire, and tried to pull the vehicle over," Lt. Jim Gavin told KTLA. "They were able to pull it over. The victim was alive momentarily, and then expired on scene."
