Woman Struck and Killed by Bus in Mid-Wilshire

The victim was on a bus bench and ran out into the eastbound lanes of Wilshire Boulevard, where she was struck by the bus, police said.

A woman in her 50s was struck and killed by a Metro bus near a bus stop Tuesday morning in the Mid-Wilshire area of Los Angeles.

Police responded about 12:20 a.m. to the intersection of Wilshire Boulevard and Rossmore Avenue and located the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The victim was on a bus bench and ran out into the eastbound lanes of Wilshire Boulevard, where she was struck by the bus, police said.

Witnesses told a news photographer at the scene the woman had stepped into the street to wave for the bus, identified as Metro Bus Route Seven en route to Seventh and Maple streets in downtown Los Angeles, seconds before she was hit. The Metro bus driver told the news photographer he saw the woman, but it was too late to stop.

LAPD West Traffic detectives investigated the crash.

The name of the victim was not disclosed.
