66-Year-Old Woman's Body Found in Garage in Hacienda Heights

A strong odor in the garage prompted the call to authorities

Detectives are investigating the murder of a 66-year-old woman whose body was found in a garage in an affluent community in the San Gabriel Valley Thursday.

After not hearing from the victim for a few days, family members visited her home in the 15000 block of Las Tunas Drive Hacienda Heights, authorities said.

They were met by a "strong odor" emanating from the garage and called authorities. Deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department found the body at 9:40 a.m.

The victim's 44-year-old son is being detained on a possible probation violation and has not been named as a suspect in his mother's murder, the LA County Sheriff's Department said in a news release Thursday night.

A motive has not yet been established, and the name of the victim and her son are being withheld, authorities said.

Hacienda Heights is an affluent unincorporated area below the Puente Hills of the San Gabriel Valley, about 20 miles east of downtown LA.
