Youth Policy Institute

The Youth Policy Institute’s mission is to transform Los Angeles’ neighborhoods using a holistic approach to reduce poverty by ensuring families access to high quality schools, wrap-around education and technology services, enabling a successful transition from cradle-to-college and career. AmeriCorps VISTA is a national service program designed specifically to fight poverty. The VISTA role in addressing the problems of poverty in a particular community is to mobilize community resources and increase the capacity of the low income community. As part of YPI, AmeriCorps VISTA members work to bring resources to youth in high-need, high-risk areas of Los Angeles.

Volunteers are needed to assist in the efforts of the Hunger 4 Change Walk-a-thon as well as the college/career fair and health resource fair. The Hunger 4 Change Walk-a-thon is a community event to raise funds and awareness for Share Our Strength® No Kid Hungry. This cause is extremely important to the community, as Los Angeles has the highest level of food insecurity among children in the United States and there is a great need for food and nutrition services.
