No Apparent Connection Between 2 Bodies Found in Long Beach, Police Say

The bodies of a man and a woman were found Monday in the same general area in Long Beach, but there was no apparent connection between the two deaths, police said.

Someone walking along the shore discovered the nude body of a 43-year-old man at the waterline near the 5400 block of East Ocean Boulevard at 5:50 a.m., the Long Beach Police Department reported.

"The deceased individual on the beach is a male adult with an apparent gunshot wound to the upper torso,'' said Long Beach police Sgt. Brad Johnson.

"While conducting their investigation, officers discovered a second dead body inside of a parked SUV nearby," Johnson said.

While police were conducting the investigation, officers found a second dead body inside a parked SUV, Johnson said.

The body inside the blue Ford Explorer, which was parked along the south curb of Ocean Boulevard, was that of 49-year-old woman who died of apparent natural causes, police said.

The woman, who may have been homeless and living out of her vehicle, appeared to have been in poor health although her body showed no obvious signs of trauma, police said.

"Based on the preliminary findings, the investigators do not believe there is any connection between these two cases, however, the investigation continues."

The decedents' names were withheld pending family notification.

Police searched the beach and the water near the shoreline for a weapon, but none had been found.
