Woman's Body Found on Rocks Near LA River in Long Beach

A woman was found dead Thursday at the bank of the Los Angeles River in Long Beach, and authorities were working to determine if foul play was involved in her death.

Police received a call about 1:30 a.m. about a person lying on the rocks of the river, just south of the Ocean Boulevard bridge, said Long Beach police Lt. John Kanaley.

Responding officers found the woman deceased along the river's bank, Kanaley said.

The cause of her death was not known. Her name was not immediately released.

"A vehicle that matched the description of a vehicle seen leaving the area was stopped," police spokeswoman Nancy Pratt said late this morning.

"The occupants of the vehicle are being interviewed by police. However, their involvement is unknown at this time.''

Homicide detectives were sent to the scene, and the Long Beach police dive team searched the waters for possible evidence, Pratt said.
