Officer Booked on Felony Charges of Animal Cruelty

A Riverside police officer was arrested last Tuesday after authorities received a report of animal cruelty in Moreno Valley.

Anthony Watkins, 42, of Moreno Valley was arrested by officers from the Moreno Valley Police Department at his home in the 9900 block of Pasatiempo Place on September 6, according to the Riverside Sheriff's Department.

The Riverside Police Department confirmed the officer is on adminstrative leave pending the criminal investigation.

Watkins was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center last Wednesday on felony charges of animal cruelty, police said.

He was released on $10,000 bail, according to the Riverside County Sheriff Coroner's office.

Specifc details of the allegations against Watkins had not been released Thursday.

Watkins is scheduled to appear in court on November 8 at the Riverside Hall of Justice.
