A 6-year-old boy was fatally stabbed Thursday in the unincorporated Florence Firestone neighborhood, and his 38-year-old father was arrested on suspicion of killing him, the sheriff's department reported.
It happened about midnight in the 1600 block of East 88th Street, Los Angeles County sheriff's Deputy Trina Schrader said.
The child's father -- identified as Alejandro Sanchez --was screaming incoherently and covered in blood when he was was taken into custody at the scene, Schrader said.
A Los Angeles County sheriff's detective said the child was found in a trailer at the rear of the house suffering from multiple stab wounds following a 911 call to law enforcement, Schrader said.
Deputies performed CPR on the boy and paramedics later took him St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood, where he died, she said.
The motive for stabbing the boy was not immediately reported. Sanchez was jailed on $1 million bail, Schrader said.
