Man Barricaded in San Jacinto Home

A possibly armed man barricaded himself in a San Jacinto apartment Thursday afternoon, prompting the lockdown of several nearby schools and an hours-long standoff with sheriff's deputies.

Residents reported hearing shots fired just after 1 p.m. in the 300 block of Idyllwild Drive.

When sheriff’s deputies arrived, they spoke with a man they thought might be involved in the reported gunfire, and he barricaded himself within a home. It is not known if he is armed.

A SWAT team was at the home after 3 p.m. and four nearby schools were placed on lockdown as a precaution.

No gunshot victims have been located, and the man surrendered just after 6 p.m.

A family member told NBC4 the man was unarmed, and the sounds people heard were windows breaking. She said the incident began when the 21-year-old man, who she said suffers from mental illness, was involved in a fight with his mother.
