Man Dragged to Death While Trying to Stop Carjacking

Authorities Sunday are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man who was fatally injured when he left his vehicle running in front of a business in Lawndale and was killed when he was dragged, while holding onto the vehicle's passenger door as the suspects drove it away.

Deputies dispatched at 8:25 p.m. Saturday to a business in the 4400 block of Redondo Beach Boulevard found the man suffering from trauma. Paramedics rushed him to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead, said Deputy Tracy Koerner of the Sheriff's Information Bureau.

The victim had left his vehicle running in front of a business. Suspects entered the vehicle, as he walked toward the business and began to drive it away, Koerner said.

The man grabbed hold of the passenger door and was dragged a couple of hundred yards before he fell off.

Sheriff's homicide detectives asked anyone with information regarding this incident to call them at (323) 890-5500.
