Man Dies After Apartment Fire in Long Beach

A man died after he was found Wednesday night inside a burning apartment building in Long Beach, firefighters said.

The blaze was reported around 10:22 p.m. in the 500 block of W. 7th Street, according to the Long Beach Fire Department.

When firefighters arrived, they found a four-unit apartment building billowing light-to-heavy smoke, firefighters said.

Firefighters also noticed smoke coming from a rear unit and found a 35-year-old man. The firefighters tried to save the man's life at the scene, according to the Long Beach Fire Department.

The man was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Firefighters put out the fire within about 10 minutes.

Arson and homicide detectives were at the scene of the fire trying to determine if the man's death was caused by the fire.

The intersection of 7th Street and Magnolia Avenue was closed early Thursday morning.

The cause of the fire was unknown and under investigation.
