Man Killed in Garden Grove Shooting Gave Police False Name

Police say they couldn't identify the man because he gave them a false name.

A man was gunned down in Garden Grove early on Monday, and police were working to identify the victim, who gave authorities a bogus name before he died.

Police responded just after 12:15 a.m. to a call of shots fired in the 12000 block of Corvette Street. They found the victim in a driveway suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, said Garden Grove police Lt. Carl Whitney.

Police say the house where the man was shot did not belong to him.

The man was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead about 7:30 a.m., according to Whitney, who said investigators plan to run his fingerprints to see if it leads them to his true identity.

"He wasn't very forthcoming with information," Whitney said. "We weren't able to identify him based on the information he gave us."

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call detectives at 714-741-5422.
