A man suspected of invading an Orange County home was shot and killed Saturday morning by police officers, officials said.
The man allegedly cajoled his way into a Garden Grove home on the 9900 block of Aldgate Avenue just after 8 a.m.
Responding to a call from the home, police shot the suspect, according to the release. The suspect died from his injuries at UCI Medical Center.
He allegedly banged on the door of the home, telling the residents he was being chased and needed to enter. After the residents let him in, he apparently armed himself with a knife and threatened to kill a woman who lived in the home, according to the Garden Grove police statement.
A male resident grabbed a shotgun but the suspect stabbed him in the arm, the statement alleged.
That's when police oficers entered the home -- the residents had called the police to report an attempted burglary when they first heard banging -- and confronted the suspect, the statement said.
No information was provided about the confrontation to explain why the suspect was shot.
The male resident of the home is being treated for the wound at Garden Grove Medical Center, where he is in stable condition, according to the police statement.
A shooting investigation team from the Orange County District Attorney's Office has been notified of the shooting and will investigate along with Garden Grove police.
