Man Shot, Killed While Driving With Children in Car in Ontario

The children were uninjured.

A 40-year-old man was driving with children in the car when he was shot and killed in Ontario, police said Tuesday.

The cars involved in the brazen attack were caught on a nearby surveillance camera as one car pulls up to a Toyota sedan. The suspect's car takes off, and a blast of smoke billows up as the Toyota crashes into a truck in front of it.

"When the truck driver came out, he noticed the driver of the car had blood on him," Sgt. Jeff Higbee, Ontario Police, said. "Upon further investigation, it was apparent that the driver had been shot and was dead."

Ontario police responded to a report of shots in the area of G Street and Vineyard Avenue at 1:35 p.m.

The man was apparently shot while he was driving with a 1-year-old and 4-year-old in the car, Ontario police said.

The children were not hurt, but the man died.

There was no suspect description immediately available.

Family and friends placed candles near the crime scene. They identified the deceased driver as Angel Antonio Hernandez.

"There were two children in the car," Higbee said. "Both were unharmed, but it was obviously traumatic. We're still investigating."
