Man Sought in Attack on Woman

Police sought the public's help Wednesday in identifying a suspect in the attempted murder of a 66-year-old woman in South Los Angeles.

Officers responded to a report of a battery around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday at a motel in the 7100 block of South Vermont Avenue and discovered the victim in one of the motel rooms, unconscious and severely beaten, according to Detective Rick Gordon of the Los Angeles Police Department's Criminal/Gang Homicide Division.

The victim was taken to a local hospital where she remains in critical condition, Gordon said. Police are seeking a person of interest who might have been with the victim but fled prior to officers arriving.

That person has been identified as James Robinson McGee, 55, and is described as a black man with black hair and brown eyes, 5-feet-9 inches tall and weighing about 220 pounds.
