Man Killed by Hit-and-Run Driver in IE

Police say the victim was launched into the air and hit a mailbox before falling back down.

Police are looking for a person who fatally struck a man and then fled the scene in an unincorporated area of San Bernardino County.

The hit-and-run collision happened around 4:15 a.m. Sunday when the man was hit by a speeding SUV as he walked in the roadway along Waterman Avenue, just south of 4th Street, the California Highway Patrol said.

The impact of the strike launched the man from the roadway to the curb and caused him to hit a mailbox before finally landing on the ground, the CHP said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have not yet identified the victim. The SUV involved in the crash was described only as "dark" in color.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Inland CHP's San Bernardino office at 909-388-4247.
