Man Killed by Hit-Run Driver While Changing Tire on 210 Freeway

A man who was changing a flat tire on the 210 Freeway in Fontana was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver early Sunday morning, officials said.

The crash was reported about 3:45 a.m. near the Cherry Avenue off-ramp of the eastbound 210 Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The 55-year-old resident of Pomona was the front right passenger in a Honda sedan that had pulled over on the side of the freeway. The man exited the vehicle to fix the flat tire when an SUV exiting Cherry Avenue struck him and the vehicle, CHP said. The man died as a result of his injuries. 

The driver of the SUV fled the scene. The vehicle was described as a white, mid-sized SUV with damage to the left front side.
