Hammer-Wielding Man Sought in East LA Attacks of Woman, Man

A man was being sought Friday after allegedly striking a man and a woman with a hammer-like weapon in separate attacks on the same day in East Los Angeles, officials said.

The assaults occurred last Friday, the first in the 1400 block of South Bonnie Beach Place and the second in the 4400 block of Triggs Street, according to the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department.

In the first attack, the assailant walked up to a 73-year-old man and, without any provocation, struck him with a hammer-type weapon, LASD said. The man kicked the victim who and then fled southbound on Bonnie Beach Place.

A few hours later, the attacker struck a woman with the same type of weapon several times on the head before fleeing. The woman fell to the ground and lost consciousness. 

The suspect is described as a male in his mid-40s, approximately 240 pounds, 6 feet tall, wearing a straw hat and blue wind breaker-type jacket.

Both victims were transported to local hospitals in serious condition.
