Metallic Balloon Knocks Out Power in Pico Rivera

Southern California Edison is warning people to put weights on their balloons after the power outage.

A metallic balloon knocked out power to 6,274 Southern California Edison customers in Pico Rivera on Wednesday evening after it landed at the utility's substation on Beverly Boulevard and Amberwood Avenue, officials said.

The affected area included Beverly Road to the north, Mines Avenue to the south, Passons Boulevard to the east and Van Norman Road to the west, Edison officials said.

As of 9 p.m., 786 people were still without service. Officials did not expect the power to be restored until Thursday afternoon.

Edison took the opportunity to remind people to put weights on their balloons.
