Missing San Bernardino County Man Dies in Hit-and-Run

The man was reported missing earlier in the day from an assisted living facility 13 miles away from where he was hit

A Southern California man who had been reported missing from his assisted care facility Friday died the next day after a hit-and-run collision. 

John Preciado, 85, of Mentone was hit by a vehicle Friday night at the intersection of W. Rialto Avenue and G Street in San Bernardino.

Preciado was taken to the hospital and died Saturday morning around 1 a.m., the San Bernardino Sheriff's Department said in a news release.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene.  

Earlier Friday, Preciado was reported missing from an assisted care facility on Jasper Avenue in Mentone, about 13 miles east of the intersection where he was hit. He left the facility on foot, officials said.

Preciado was diabetic and had been diagnosed with schizophrenia.
