Authorities Say Missing Rosemead 10-Year-Old Girl Ran Away, Not in Danger

Despite the girl leaving on her own, anyone with information regarding her whereabouts is urged to call the sheriff's Missing Persons Unit or 911.

Authorities released more details Friday about a 10-year-old girl who went missing from her Rosemead school, saying she has not been kidnapped, and is not in immediate danger.

Detectives believe Cynthia Wheeler-Villanueva, who was last seen leaving school in the 7500 block of Emerson Place at about 12:30 p.m., Jan. 9, ran away and is not in any immediate danger, said Deputy Trina Schrader of the Sheriff's Information Bureau.

Detectives canvassed parts of San Pedro near Pacific Avenue Wednesday for Cynthia, and areas where Cynthia used to live and go to school. Detectives spoke to children from her former school who told them they saw her in the last couple of days and that she looks to be in good condition, Schrader said.

"Based on information they've obtained during the investigation from friends and family, (detectives) believe she left voluntarily and is not in any immediate danger, nor has she been kidnapped,'' Schrader said. "Detectives are asking for your help finding Cynthia Wheeler-Villanueva so we can get the 10-year-old girl off the streets.''

Cynthia is a Latina, about 5 feet 1 and 105 pounds with brown hair worn in a bun, and brown eyes. Anyone with information regarding her whereabouts is urged to call the sheriff's Missing Persons Unit at (323) 890-5500 or 911.
