Mom Suspected of Leaving 4 Toddlers in Car Amid California Heat

Temperatures in the area topped 100 degrees.

Authorities in Southern California have arrested a mother they say left her four toddlers in a parked car during triple-digit heat.

San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies responded to the 15400 block of Vallejo Street in Victorville around midday Wednesday, where they discovered three girls and a boy trapped in the back seat of a hot car. Temperatures in the area topped 100 degrees.

Investigators believe the kids, ranging in age from 1 to 3, were inside for about 30 minutes with the engine off and the windows rolled up.

"When the children's mother ... saw the deputies she tried to leave the location in the vehicle, with the children still unsecured in the back seat," sheriff's officials said in a statement, noting there were no car seats inside.

Officials say the 28-year-old mother, Danessha Janee Williams, was arrested on suspicion of child cruelty. She was slated to appear in court Friday.

After being examined by paramedics, the children were released to the custody of a family member.
