A 63-year-old driver has been arrested for allegedly leaving the scene after hitting and killing a 14-year-old boy on a skateboard in Monterey Park.
The collision occurred about 9:20 p.m. on Nov. 18, according to Monterey Park Police Department Sgt. Paul Yniguez.
The victim, Joshua Madrid, was crossing Atlantic Boulevard at Newmark Avenue when he was struck. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Yniguez said.
The vehicle that struck the boy was driven south on Atlantic Boulevard after the collision, Yniguez said.
"The preliminary investigation indicates Madrid was not in the marked crosswalk and entered the intersection on a red traffic signal when he was struck by a vehicle traveling southbound on Atlantic Boulevard," Yniguez said.
On Friday, detectives found a white minivan that was involved in the collision and subsequently arrested Cristina Navarro of Montebello, Yniguez said.
"Navarro is out on bond and set to appear in the Alhambra Superior Court on Feb. 24, 2020 for arraignment," Yniguez said.
