Multiple Garden Grove Schools Temporarily Locked Down After Reports of Shots Fired; Suspect in Custody

A suspect was in custody Thursday morning following reports of shots fired in Garden Grove, triggering a lockdown at multiple schools in the area, officials said.

Around 8:41 a.m., police received a call of a suspect firing two rounds into the air on Blanche Avenue east of Dale Street, according to preliminary reports by the Garden Grove Police Department.

The suspect was seen walking away from the area and was believed to be contained in a nearby home, Garden Grove police said.

Alamitos-Lawrence Intermediate School was placed on a full lockdown while Ernest O. Lawrence Elementary, Louis G. Zeyen Elementary, Standford Elementary and Faylane Elementary (inside Skylark Elementary) were on modified lockdown, school district officials said.

The lockdown had been lifted for all schools as of 10:30 a.m., according to Natalie Grace with the Garden Grove School District.
