Nepal Earthquake May Have Caused Mt. Everest's Deadliest Day

Saturday's massive earthquake in Nepal killed at least 1,130 people, destroyed historic temples and sent an avalanche racing down Everest in what could ultimately become the mountain's deadliest day ever. Varying death tolls were reported from Earth's tallest peak: Reuters quoted an army spokesman as saying 18 bodies had been found by an Indian army mountaineering team, but a senior trekking guide told The Associated Press that 17 people had died in the avalanche. The numbers were not immediately confirmed by NBC News. Among the dead was Dan Fredinburg, a 33-year-old Google executive who was hiking the mountain with three coworkers.
