Maine Father Killed Family of Four, Himself: Cops

In what an official has called, "one of the worst cases of domestic violence in Maine's history, " a suicidal father killed his three young children, their mother, and then himself. Police said 33-year-old Joel Smith was suicidal and having financial problems before he killed his family in various rooms of their apartment with a 12-gauge shotgun on Saturday night. No suicide note was found, according to police, but investigators said the wife had told a family friend the night of the shooting that Smith recently had threatened suicide. Read »

Police: Arrest Made in NH Teen Kidnapping Case

Authorities say a 34-year-old New Hampshire man has been arrested and charged in the case of a teen girl kidnapping, NECN reported. Nathaniel E. Kibby has been charged with one count of felony kidnapping as the girl, Abigail Hernandez disappeared on Oct. 9, 2013 on her way home from school. Kibby will be arraigned Tuesday at 1 p.m. and police say there will be a press briefing following the arraignment. Read »

WATCH: Hot Air Balloon Crashes Into Wires

A hot air balloon crashed into power lines in Clinton, Massachusetts, injuring five people on board and knocking out power to about 600 homes, NECN reported. Three people were transported to Clinton Hospital for minor cuts and burns, according to the Clinton Fire Department. Two others were treated on scene. Cell phone video captured an explosion as the balloon struck a set of power lines. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating. Read »

Testimony Concludes in Case Against Boston Bombing Suspect's Friend

The prosecution and defense rested their cases Monday in the trial of Azamat Tazhayakov, the friend of accused Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. Tazhayakov has pleaded not guilty to conspiracy and obstruction of justice. He is accused of removing items from Tsarnaev's dorm room after learning that his friend was suspected of carrying out the bombings. Prosecutors also showed a video of Tsarnaev in what is believed to be his dorm building after the attack. The jury has been sent home until Wednesday, when closing arguments will be heard. Read »
