Ariz. Baby Dies After Dad Bends Him to Make Him Stop Crying: Police

The child received critical injuries to his liver and pancreas, a broken wrist and bruising on his thigh, according to a police report

An infant has died after allegedly being bent by his father because the boy was crying, Phoenix police said.

A police representative confirmed the baby's death after NBC affiliate KPNX reported it Tuesday. Charges are pending a report from the medical examiner, according to the representative.

The boy's 30-year-old father, Robert Anthony Resendiz, was booked into a Maricopa County jail on Dec. 19 on two counts of child abuse.

Officers were called to a home near 12th Street and Camelback Road in response to a child who was not breathing.

According to a police report, Resendiz told investigators he pulled his son's legs over his head and bent his body in an attempt to stop the crying. He said he didn't release the pressure until the boy went limp.

Resendiz also allegedly told police he bit his son twice "out of frustration," according to KPNX.

Doctors at Phoenix Children's Hospital reported to police that the infant had critical injuries to his liver and pancreas, a broken wrist and bruising on his thigh.

Resendiz is being held on a $250,000 bond. Jail records do not indicate if he has an attorney.
