Baltimore Activists Pursue Cease-Fire With ‘Nobody Kill Anybody' Weekend

Baltimore has seen more murders than New York City this year

Although it has less than one-tenth the population of New York City, Baltimore has seen almost 50 more homicides this year, according to police statistics.

And, as NBC News reports, the Maryland city's murder rate is also on the rise, 20 percent higher compared to the same period last year.

Hoping to prove that peace is possible, Erricka Bridgeford and other activists are asking the people of Baltimore to commit to the "Nobody Kill Anybody" weekend, essentially requesting a citywide, 72-hour cease-fire.

"We don't think this is a cure," Bridgeford said. "We don’t think this will even necessarily stop violence that weekend, but we know that some people have made promises that they won't, and that just might save somebody’s life."
