Florida's Early Voting Wrapping Up; 6M Have Cast Ballots

Floridians can still vote Sunday in 16 of Florida's 67 counties, including some of the state's largest

Nearly half of Florida's 12.9 million active registered voters have cast ballots ahead of Tuesday's election as early voting comes to an end.

Nearly 48 percent of all registered voters in Florida have either voted early or voted by mail, according to new numbers reported Sunday to the state Division of Elections.

Democrats have a slight edge of nearly 33,000 votes over Republicans with just one day of early voting left. Of 6.15 million votes cast, 2.4 million votes have come from registered Republicans, compared to more than 2.43 million votes from Democrats. More than 1.16 million voters registered with no party affiliation have also voted.

Floridians can still vote Sunday in 16 of Florida's 67 counties, including some of the state's largest.

The Democratic strongholds of Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties will have polls open, as will Pinellas, Hillsborough and Orange counties along the strategic Interstate 4 corridor.

Democrats are holding "souls to the polls" events, encouraging African-American churchgoers to take advantage of the last early-voting day.

There are still more than 800,000 vote-by-mail ballots that haven't been returned, including 347,757 sent to Democrats and 270,911 sent to Republicans.

President Barack Obama will campaign for Hillary Clinton in central Florida on Sunday, while Donald Trump's running mate, Mike Pence, will hold an event in Panama City.

The tight battle in Florida has compelled Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and Trump to make repeated swings through the Sunshine State. Both campaigned in Florida Saturday and Trump plans to return for a Sarasota event Monday.
