GE Recalls 62,000 Front-Loading Washers

Recalled washing machines can pose a risk to customers

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall of 62,000 GE Profile front load washing machines Wednesday.

The recall was announced after 19 reports were received of washer baskets separating, 10 of which resulted in the top panel of the machine breaking.  The CPSC said the washers pose a risk to consumers and should not be used until repaired.

The recall involves GE Profile washers with model numbers WPDH8800, WPDH8900 and WPDH8910 and includes all serial numbers.  The model number can be found inside the door panel.

The washing machines were sold at Best Buy, Lowe's, Sears, The Home Depot and other department stores between July 2008 and August 2011.

Owners of the recalled machines should stop using them and call GE Appliances at (888) 641-9739 to schedule a free repair.  Customers can also visit GE Appliances online at www.geappliances.com/products/recall.
