Mother, 4 Adopted Kids Found Dead in Apparent Murder-Suicide in Tenn. Home

Investigators were interviewing surviving family members but did not believe a suspect was at large

A woman fatally shot her four adopted children before killing herself at a home in Tennessee, NBC News reported.

Cynthia Collier's four children, aged 14 to 17, had lived at the home for years and were homeschooled, authorities said. There weren't any known reports of domestic violence at the home in Columbia, south of Nashville.

Investigators were interviewing surviving family members but did not believe a suspect was at large, with evidence pointing to a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Maury County Sheriff Bucky Rowland.

"We deal with carnage," Rowland said. "The magnitude of this — it was more than what we're used to on a day-to-day basis."
