Mom Organizes Prom for Son With Special Needs

A western Pennsylvania mother's effort to organize a prom for her son with special needs has turned into an event for other students in the same situation.

Carrie Boyer, of Ferndale, tells WJAC-TV that she organized "Our Fairytale Prom" for her 19-year-old son Charles, a twin who was born prematurely and is now legally blind, has cerebral palsy and epilepsy.

Charles is a 19-year-old senior at the Vo-Tech Life Skills program in the Ferndale Area School District and wanted to attend prom, but couldn't because of health issues.

His mother organized the event at a banquet hall in Johnstown on May 31, and community members have volunteered to provide some services for the event.

It's grown to the point that Boyer is inviting anyone 15 and older with specials needs to attend.
