Teen Recalls Driving, Listening to Music Before Landing in Forest

A New Jersey teen who was rescued from an SUV wedged between two trees says he only remembers driving and listening to music before the vehicle was launched into a forest.

The 17-year-old was driving on Sparta Stanhope Road in Hopatcong moments before the Thursday morning crash.

Somehow the SUV crossed the yellow line, went airborne and was thrown off the road into a pair of trees. Police said the vehicle crashed into one of the trees head-on before its rear came down on top of the second tree.

Photos from the scene show the SUV perfectly crammed between the towering pieces of wood.

The teen recalls little of the accident, police said. He told officers he remembers driving and the next moment he saw his hood bent up.

He was wearing a seatbelt at the time and was not injured. Police said they’re still not sure what caused him to veer off the road.
